CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character NAME: Ichimaru Gin
Canon & MEDIUM: Bleach
Canon PULL-POINT: Following his Death in Chapter 416 of the Manga.
Character AGE: he's an old spooky ghost so idc, mentally he's an adult
Character ABILITIES:

Gin is a Shinigami, which in Bleach acts like a reaper. They generally purify spirits and send them off to the afterlife, and are just plain better than humans in every way in terms of strength, speed, durability, longevity, etc. He, as with all shinigami, can increase/decrease his spiritual pressure in order to augment/diminish his own power, the drawback being that increasing it leaves him susceptible to detection by those with spiritual awareness and can injure those around him without the strength to withstand it, while decreasing it hides his presence in exchange for leaving him under full power. He can also detect/interact with ghosts. Comes with the territory.

Amongst Shinigami in particular, and even his fellow captains, Gin is hailed as a prodigy. He graduated from the Shinigami academy in a year, acing all of the classes taken and gaining a seated position within the 5th division shortly after graduating, still being a kid at the time. The shinigami hailed as a genius before him, Kaien Shiba, took five years to gain a seated position by the time he graduated, surpassing him by leaps and bounds. He's highly trained in swordsmanship, Shunpo(high speed anime movement nonsense) and Kidou(super ghost magic). He's also a freaking genius in the literal sense, since he manipulates people without even trying. Of note is his ability to emotionally manipulate people to his advantage. He's kind of an ass, since he tends to upset people a lot this way.

basically he's the super ghost captain you wish your super ghost captain was

Character HISTORY: christ ok i'll try and keep it condensed for you guys

Basically in Bleach the story revolves around this Kid Ichigo who can see ghosts that has a run-in with a Shinigami from the soul society, or a Death God from a realm that governs the afterlife and the spirits who go to it, named Rukia. She gives him a portion of her power so he can fight for her while she recovers from becoming heavily injured during an attack on Ichigo's house by a hollow(evil spirit) and during the time he has it, fights Hollows in her stead as she recovers. Eventually people come to reclaim her, Ichigo tries to stop them, gets his ass handed to him, then they leave, so Ichigo goes through a huge training montage and trails them to soul society, the place all spirits not condemned to hell dwell within, to rescue her and find out what the deal is.

But who cares about that, that's just the basics of the plot. We wanna know what Gin's goddamned deal is here.

So when Gin was a kid ghost living in Rukongai, which is the residential area of the Soul Society that spirits awaiting reincarnation stay, he came across a collapsed girl named Rangiku, who he sheltered and took care of, providing food for her. The two became fast friends, and she became one of the very few people in the world Gin truly cared for in his life. One night when Gin was walking home, he came across three Shinigami kneeling before another Shinigami known as Aizen, to whom they handed a ball of mysterious pink energy. Gin remembered seeing the three Shinigami in the area Rangiku had been when he first met her, that at the time were carrying a similar ball of energy and so he figured three things out.

1) They were the reason Rangiku was so badly injured.
2) Aizen was their leader.
3) For injuring her as they did, Gin was going to kill Aizen.

He trained and studied at the Shinigami Academy, hoping that by becoming a high ranking Shinigami he could change things for the better, with the hopes that Rangiku would "never have to cry again." Once he entered into the 5th division, he murdered the 3rd seat of that division, something Aizen witnessed. Impressed with his skill despite the fact he was still a child, Aizen gave Gin the spot of 3rd seat while covering up the murder, the first step on Gin's whole convoluted revenge scheme.

Over the years, he started assisting Aizen in all of his schemes. Nine years following the night of the 3rd seat's murder, he helped Aizen with the hollowfication of high ranking Shinigami, which essentially meant turning them into Hollow/Shinigami hybrids(hollow being the evil spirits Shinigami are sworn to hunt down). For a time, Gin was Aizen's lieutenant in the 5th division, but eventually became the Captain of the third division, but despite the change in rank he continued to serve under Aizen loyally.

Lets fast-forward to when Ichigo enters soul society looking for Rukia.

Gin first encounters Ichigo when he's trying to enter Soul Society's interior past the Rukongai after Ichigo defeats the gatekeeper. Gin attacks them with a single thrust of his weapon, knocking the two far away from the gate which closes without the gatekeeper to hold it open. He states that even if the gatekeeper loses, the victor isn't allowed to enter, and instead the gatekeeper is merely supposed to die. However, he purposefully holds back just enough to instead injure them instead of killing them as he should have.

Later, Aizen and Gin have a scripted encounter that they purposefully allow another captain, Toshiro Hitisugauya, to hear. It leads him to believe that Gin intends to kill Aizen, so Hitusgya warns Aizen's new lieutenant, Momo, that his life could be in danger. She then finds Aizen's stabbed corpse sometime after with Gin at the scene of the crime. His carefree attitude regarding what he seemed to have done to Aizen drives her to attack him, only for Gin's lieutenant to defend him from her attack. Hitusgaya soon arrives, breaks up the fight and arrests both lieutenants, but Gin releases his lieutenant from his cell shortly after this. Momo, meanwhile, is convinced that Hitsugaya was the one who killed Aizen, and when she confronts Hitsugaya as he was confronting Gin and his lieutenant, Hitsugaya attacks Gin for tricking her.

As it turns out, this was all a ruse in order to keep everyone's attention on Gin and away from Aizen. The corpse of Aizen was a fake, and he appears at an execution organized for Rukia alongside Aizen and their other ally, Kaname Tosen, to take something called the Hogyoku from Rukia's body, but soul society soon makes an attempt at apprehending them only for the trio to escape to Hueco Mundo, the place where all hollows reside. The last thing Gin does is apologize to Rangiku before disappearing.

Basically a load of shit happens between then and Gin's next major appearance, but none of it really matters. He shows up briefly maybe four times and has short, meaningless conversations with some characters, but ultimately does nothing to move the plot for some time.

Aizen eventually invades Karakura town, Ichigo's hometown, to sacrifice everyone there to create an Oken, which is a key to the realm of the Soul King, the guy who runs Soul Society and that, without him, it can't even sustain it's existence. In order to do this, Aizen needs 100,000 souls and soul rich soil or some shit like that, which Karakura town has plenty of. He's lead to a fake Karakura town instead by Soul Society however, the Head-Captain Yamamoto trapping Aizen, Tosen and Gin within a giant cage of fire while the Shinigami begin to attack Aizen's hollow army, specifically the Espada(think hollow versions of Shinigami captains) and their subordinates.

After a little while the three are freed from the giant flaming cage by an enormous hollow that arrives as backup for Aizen's forces. Gin fights for a bit with Shinji, the leader of the hollowfied Shinigami that Aizen had experimented on all those years ago, before Aizen tells him it's time to end everything. One of the hollowfied shinigami, Hiyori, charges at Aizen when she falls for his taunts only for Gin to bifurcate her at the waist while she's distracted. Once Isshin Kurosaki, Ichigo's father who is revealed to be a shinigami, arrives and begins to fight with Aizen, Ichigo attacks Gin. The two fight for a bit, with Gin recollecting on their first "fight".

Ichigo tells Gin that when he fights people he begins to understand them through combat with each clash of their weapons, but that when he clashes blades with Gin, he feels nothing. He can't "understand" his heart or his drive. Gin laughs this off, saying that he thought Ichigo was an interesting Kid, but now he just thinks he's a weirdo. They continue to fight, with Gin eventually using his bankai(basically the strongest stage of his weapon which i'll explain later) for the first time in the series. He fights Ichigo who, despite a block and lucky shot against Gin that surprised him, was otherwise completely overwhelmed and defeated by Gin with ease. Gin says he's lost interest in fighting Ichigo, that his encounter with Ichigo in Soul Society lead him to believe Ichigo was fiercer than he actually is now, and says if Ichigo runs he will let him leave, because Aizen would be disappointed to see that Ichigo has become so weak.

Aizen and Gin eventually leave and head to the real Karakura town, only for Rangiku to show up and interrupt them. Gin asks for Aizen to leave them alone, who complies and walks away, with Gin bringing Rangiku elsewhere. He asks what she's doing getting in the way, to which she responds with a questioning of her own as to why he betrayed his lieutenant. Gin asks if it was the real question she was asking, or if it was her wanting to know why he betrayed her instead. He then draws his sword on her.

The next we see of Gin, he returns to Aizen, who notes he can no longer feel Rangiku's spiritual pressure, confirming her dead. He remarks he's surprised Gin killed him, believing Gin had feelings for her, but Gin denies this by saying he's a snake that takes an interest in things only to devour them in the end. The pair come across Ichigo's friends, declaring he's going to start gathering souls by killing them, but Gin places his hand on Aizen's blade and tells him to stop, that he'll do it instead. He activates his bankai, only to turn his weapon on Aizen and impale him through the chest, his entire history with Aizen leading up to this moment. It took decades of work to get close enough to learn the secret to bypassing Aizen's weapon's ability, absolute hypnosis, which was to grab the blade of the weapon while it wasn't activated. Aizen isn't dead, but Gin tells him he soon will be, and that he left a chip of his own weapon inside of Aizen's body, and by simply ordering his weapon to "kill", the chip of his sword produces a deadly poison that completely breaks down cells in Aizen's body leaving a gaping hole in his chest.

Gin attempts to take the Hogyoku(that thing Aizen had way way earlier in the story and that he had concealed within Rukia's body) now that Aizen no longer has it and is dead, but Aizen reappears and thanks Gin for killing him, as his death furthered his connection with the Hogyoku, allowing him to evolve further into a new form that is beyond both Shinigami and Hollow. Gin still tries to take the Hogyoku, but is cut down by Aizen, his arm ripped off and his body impaled.

As he lays dying, Rangiku appears completely unharmed(he cloaked her spiritual pressure with Kidou) and holds him in her arms as he dies. He tells her he's sorry he couldn't fulfill his promise to make things right, but dies knowing he can entrust the task of killing Aizen to a newly empowered Ichigo who arrived seconds before Gin's death.

Character PERSONALITY:

Ask anybody who knows Gin to describe him, and chances are they'll either tell you "weird", "creepy" or downright "scary". He's a very mysterious guy, hiding his emotions both figuratively through his constantly cheerful demeanor, and physically, by smiling and keeping his eyes shut all of the time. It's hard to get a read on how he's feeling because of the fact his facial expression never changes or falters, while his speech is littered with sarcasm and a mock politeness. He could easily compliment you only for it to be a backhanded insult, easily ask a question with negative connotations behind it or directly insult you without sounding malicious at all, leading many to question what his deal is, which he'll answer with nothing but a smile. Everything Gin does is for a reason, but nobody ever understands those reasons except for him, causing others to be mistrustful or downright wary of him. Even before he became a traitor to soul society, many rarely trusted him and some were already suspicious of him, something he was very aware of yet cared very little for. He lived a very carefree existence in Soul Society, doing whatever he wanted to entertain himself and maintaining the public image of a weirdo and a trickster, something he even enjoyed and embraced. It made everyone's reactions to his behavior all the better in his eyes.

But to describe Gin this way, to a certain extent, would be wrong. The reason for this is nobody really knows Gin, because he doesn't allow people to know him. Gin doesn't form emotional attachments with most people, instead taking an "interest" in them which is usually because he finds something about them entertaining, like people with short fuses being easily irritated or people with meek attitudes being easy to scare. Even Aizen, the person everyone is lead to believe is his Captain and leader to who he's entirely devoted and loyal to, didn't know him at all. He was being manipulated by Gin from the very start even when he was a child, and it's unknown exactly how many people there really are in the world Gin really cares about. However, by examining the only real relationship he has with Rangiku, we get an idea of what Gin really is like past the surface and just how passionate and caring a man he can be.

Upon meeting Rangiku for the first time he immediately took pity on her, sharing his food(which was scarce already) with her so she wouldn't starve to death. He allowed her to live with her, sheltered her, took care of her, provided for her and fed her the entire time they knew each other in the Rukongai. As they grew up, Gin decided to become a Shinigami so he could make the world a better place for her. He devoted his entire life to killing Aizen and changing the world order as everyone knew it so he could make the world a better place for her, so that he would never have to see her cry as he did when they were kids. Past Gin's coldness, his strangeness and his enigmatic attitude, he is ultimately a very devoted and passionate man. When he cares for someone, he does everything he can for them, even if it's hard to tell with the way he behaves, because at the core of his personality he is always driven to do things his way, no matter how people look upon it, because all that matters to him is his plans come to fruition.

But despite the fact he is at his core a well meaning person, it doesn't mean he's a good person. The fact is he's willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, which has included manipulating the trust people put in him, murder and assisting in horrible experiments that ruined the lives of whoever was caught up in it, caring little for those involved. All that matters to Gin is the people closest to him and the people he can use; everybody else is completely expendable to him. All in all, he's complex. Well meaning and caring, yet his morals are very loose and he displays a sadistic side several occasions, ultimately being very hard to figure out because of it. People can barely tell whether or not he really cares about them in the first place.

EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Gin is going to choose his personal weapon, his Zanpakuto, Shinso. A shinigami's Zanpakuto is a physical manifestation of their power in the form of a weapon, with three stages.

It's first stage, it's sealed state, takes the form of a Wakizashi, which put simply is a sword resembling a katana but about half the size of a traditional one.

In it's second stage, Shikai, it...looks exactly the same. He activates it's ability with the phrase "Shoot to kill, Shinso", which causes the blade of the weapon to suddenly extend. The blade has massive amounts of force behind it, as it was able to casually push the giant Jirobo, a man of 32 feet in height and weighing over 2000 pounds, and Ichigo back a great distance upon striking them, at the same time. One thing to note is that a Shinigami who has attained Bankai(the next state) doesn't need to say the phrase to activate it in order to release their shikai, so Gin can use it instantly without any indicator, aside the obvious giant blade coming at the target's face.

In it's final stage, Bankai, Shinso is known as Kamishini No Yari, retaining it's appearance as it did in Shikai form. However, it's abilities are vastly improved upon, being able to extend to a length of 13km(8.1 miles) at 500 times the speed of sound, which is about 171,500 meters per second, allowing it to reach it's full length in only 0.08 seconds. Gin said in canon that it isn't as fast or as long as he claimed, but he didn't elaborate, plus the guy is a liar anyway, so I'm gonna call that as false and for now have it stick with what he said at first.

It's deadliest, secret ability is the blade of the weapon can become dust for an instant, which allows him to leave a sliver of the blade in a person he pierces with the blade. Once that happens, by simply ordering it to "kill", the sliver produces a poison that completely destroys a person by breaking them down on a cellular level. Noone knows about this except Aizen who got killed by it, though he survived because the plot is bullshit.

First PERSON:

Ah, ain't this a funny little thing? Ya' look right into it an' the world sees everythin' about you...heheh, though not literal, a' course. Wouldn't somethin' like that be handy? Put it in front a' someone an' you know just about everythin'...you'd know exactly who to trust then.

After all, ya' can get to know someone for years - decades even - yet they turn around an' stab ya' through the heart anyway just fer' somethin' they want. Life's cruel like that, yanno?

[He chuckles suddenly.]

Sorry, that's a depressin' sorta thing to bring up, ain't it? I'm sure yer' all trustworthy enough.
