Age: Nothing specific! But he's over one hundred years old at least. I reckon 120-130.
History: http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Gin_Ichimaru#History
Personality:

Ask anybody who knows Gin to describe him, and chances are they'll either tell you "weird", "creepy" or downright "scary". He's a very mysterious guy, hiding his emotions both figuratively through his constantly cheerful demeanor, and physically, by smiling and keeping his eyes shut all of the time. It's hard to get a read on how he's feeling because of the fact his facial expression never changes or falters, while his speech is littered with sarcasm and a mock politeness. He could easily compliment you only for it to be a backhanded insult, easily ask a question with negative implications about you behind it or directly insult you without sounding malicious at all, leading many to question what his deal is, which he'll answer with nothing but a smile. Everything Gin does is for a reason, but nobody ever understands those reasons except for him, causing others to be mistrustful or downright wary of him. Even before he became a traitor to soul society, many rarely trusted him and some were already suspicious of him, something he was very aware of yet cared very little for. He lived a very carefree existence in Soul Society, doing whatever he wanted to entertain himself and maintaining the public image of a weirdo and a trickster, something he even enjoyed and embraced. It made everyone's reactions to his behavior all the better in his eyes.

But to describe Gin this way, to a certain extent, would be wrong. The reason for this is nobody really knows Gin, because he doesn't allow people to know him. Gin doesn't form emotional attachments with most people, instead taking an "interest" in them which is usually because he finds something about them entertaining, like people with short fuses being easily irritated or people with meek attitudes being easy to scare. Even Aizen, the person everyone is lead to believe is his Captain and leader to who he's entirely devoted and loyal to, didn't know him at all. He was being manipulated by Gin from the very start even when he was a child, and it's unknown exactly how many people there really are in the world Gin really cares about. However, by examining the only real relationship he has with Rangiku, we get an idea of what Gin really is like past the surface and just how passionate and caring a man he can be.

Upon meeting Rangiku for the first time he immediately took pity on her, sharing his food(which was scarce already) with her so she wouldn't starve to death. He allowed her to live with her, sheltered her, took care of her, provided for her and fed her the entire time they knew each other in the Rukongai. As they grew up, Gin decided to become a Shinigami so he could make the world a better place for her. He devoted his entire life to killing Aizen and changing the world order as everyone knew it so he could make the world a better place for her, so that he would never have to see her cry as he did when they were kids. Past Gin's coldness, his strangeness and his enigmatic attitude, he is ultimately a very devoted and passionate man. When he cares for someone, he does everything he can for them, even if it's hard to tell with the way he behaves, because at the core of his personality he is always driven to do things his way, no matter how people look upon it, because all that matters to him is his plans come to fruition.

But despite the fact he is at his core a well meaning person, it doesn't mean he's a good person. The fact is he's willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, which has included manipulating the trust people put in him, murder and assisting in horrible experiments that ruined the lives of whoever was caught up in it, caring little for those involved. All that matters to Gin is the people closest to him and the people he can use; everybody else is completely expendable to him. All in all, he's complex. Well meaning and caring, yet his morals are very loose and he displays a sadistic side several occasions, ultimately being very hard to figure out because of it. People can barely tell whether or not he really cares about them in the first place.

Debt: Gin was told Rangiku had a debt to work off, but that he could work it off in her stead, so naturally he agreed immediately.
Suitability: Aside from being annoyed at getting conned(since he's the one doing the conning, usually) Gin will get over it pretty quickly. Since he has nothing else going on in his life there's no urgency to leave, so this will just be another delay to his inevitable death, like Exsilium was. He'll mostly be annoyed he wasn't allowed to go back to being dead after the war in Exsilium ended, but he'll work it out and just get on with it. He's a hard guy to slow down.

Previous Game Info: [community profile] exsilium was a war torn dystopia set on an alternate earth, where a group known as the Initiative lead a rebellion against their tyrannical dictators, the United Earth. To achieve this, they brought in people from other universes to make up their army, arming them with evolving weaponry that would make them stronger over time and allow them to successfully defeat the United Earth's troops. Using a time machine, stolen technology from the United Earth, the Initiative sent their army(the transports), to various points in time in order to sabotage the United Earth's growth at key moments in history and disrupt their entire organization.

When Gin first arrived in Exsilium, he had no interest in the war. He figured this was like a vacation(from death) that he'd spend having fun. He'd trick people for a bit, lie to them, maybe make a few enemies...and for a time, that's exactly what it was. When missions came up, he didn't bother helping, and in some cases he even made things harder for his fellow transports; an example of this was a zombie outbreak that occurred on the moonbase they were forced to inhabit at one point. Gin purposefully gathered hordes of zombies together by grabbing their attention, then lured them to other transports, forcing them to clean up the mess. He also conned a group of newbies with a card trick he'd picked up and amassed a lot of funding from it, then used it to buy a creepy statue of himself and left it in his apartment to freak out his roommates. It was even his fault everyone became convinced the male bathrooms on the moonbase were haunted by a real ghost. Much of his behavior was pointless...but it was fun. That's all that mattered to him, finding joy in his capriciousness.

But it wouldn't be much of a story if it went on like this forever. Gin began to form more solid association with certain people, rather than just antagonizing them once and never hearing from them again.

Be it pranking unsuspecting transports with Sollux Captor, teasing Rosette Christopher and getting dropkicked in the face by her, having insulting(but fun!) exchanges with Ruka or scaring Miranda Lotto, Gin grew to appreciate people on a more personal level again. His fondness of interacting with people(and not just the few mentioned above) became less about fleeting encounters that only last one conversation, but enjoying their reactions to his behavior on a personal level. He started to appreciate friendship again, a luxury he hasn't been able to afford himself in the past one hundred years. It also made him realize just how lonely he really had been before, and now that he was making friends, his cruel demeanor was starting to fade. As twisted as the past hundred years had made him, something that will always be there, he started to become less abrasive and more open and friendly again.

Another important shift in Gin's attitude occurred after Exsilium was wiped out. The United Earth completely obliterated the city the transports were staying in, forcing all of them and the Initiative staff to flee to a base on the moon, leaving all of the civilians to die. Everyone was torn up about it, but Gin had been on a mission the whole time, coming back to all this destruction...and he realized he couldn't stay idle any longer. The danger his world was in was far too apparent now, as if the United Earth could do this, they probably wouldn't have a hard time destroying his world if they did journey to it(a potential threat everyone had been warned off once they arrived, but he didn't take too seriously.) He planned on adopting an alternate identity in order to be more active in helping transports, all the while maintaining his detached attitude in public so that he wouldn't be vulnerable. So long as people thought he didn't care about anything, he was untouchable, because he realized growing close to people was a weakness - before he arrived in Exsilium, he knew this. The realization he was forgetting it slowly and growing closer to people scared him, so he decided to settle back into his old ways to protect both himself and his friends.(However, the war ended before he could really do anything with this.)

Speaking of friends, his growth in Exsilium was mostly dependent on two very important people to him - Rin Asano, his student, and Christopher Chareau de Red, his friend.

Gin had mocked Rin once or twice before, one day stumbling upon her in the training hall practicing with sword, but she was awful at it. He couldn't miss the opportunity to mess with her - but once he'd made her angry enough, she yelled at him that she wanted to protect those who mattered to her, and that it didn't matter how long it took, she wouldn't give up. This really struck Gin, as he was the same in a way...so right then and there he declared himself her teacher and she his pupil, attacking her five seconds later. She spent a lot of time complaining about him to other people, while he jokingly did the same, calling her ungrateful and rude...but in actual fact, the time they spent together made them especially close. Gin was glad to have someone to look out for again, and he really enjoyed watching her improve, almost feeling a sense of pride everytime he noticed her advancing in her training. When the war finally ended, she asked him to come with her journeying through other worlds - however, he tricked her into believing he had to go home to kill Aizen, when really Aizen had already killed him. His final favor he(believed) he did for her was protect her from the truth.

Christopher, meanwhile, was more a friend right away. The pair were quirky freaks who liked making life difficult for other people, so often they teamed up against other people and antagonized them. Gin really enjoyed Christopher's behavior as he wasn't like anyone he had ever known before, and he became someone really important to Gin. When Chris baked him a persimmon cake(persimmons being a) hard to get in Exsilium and b) his favorite food) Gin was, for the first time in a long time, really touched. He couldn't believe someone went through this kind of effort for him, but he really appreciated it. Unfortunately the good times ended pretty soon afterwards, as Christopher dragged Gin to a tarot card reading in order to investigate the guy doing them, as he had put a friend of Christopher's in danger. Gin thought nothing of it, but his past, present and future were laid before the pair of them for everyone to see - and Gin felt vulnerable for the first time in a long time, too. He didn't like people knowing everything he'd done, that in reality he was more of a person than he seemed, and Christopher recognized this and flipped the cards, forcing his own to be read instead. From this, Gin learned all about Christopher as well, specifically all about Huey, Christopher's creator, and their relationship. He confronted Chris not too long after about it, at which point Christopher started to bring up the painful aspects of Gin's past he knew about and derided him for it. The pair weren't exactly happy with how the other was behaving, but Gin told him he'd push anyway, to which Chris responded he'd do everything he could to stop him, even if he had to hurt Rin to do it. Christopher left soon afterwards, leaving Gin pretty torn up over it...not that anyone knew that.

Through all of this and his time in Exsilium, Gin started to become more human again in his behavior - he made friends, he started to care about people, he even started to regain somewhat of a conscience - but it wasn't all good. He also realized how he hated feeling vulnerable because of the friendships he made, and the confrontation with Christopher hit him the hardest in that respect. He settled into his old behavior yet again, deceiving Rin about his death and cutting off contact with people, thinking it better nobody associate with him. Because he never accomplished anything in Exsilium either, which at first he was fine with, his change in attitude made him realize he was just being selfish again. He started to hate himself for it, then decided he was just better off dead rather than being given a second chance(after all, all of his plans in canon fell through without any results, meaning all he did was help Aizen further his own plans - dying was a way to run away from that, but living in Exsilium forced him to think on it, and it messed him up). Although he is largely the same on the surface, he's dealing with a lot of issues internally, realizing he's selfish despite his good intentions and convinced this may never change, that he's doomed to hurt people he thinks he's helping. It's a degree of self loathing on his part, although not especially strong, and even then he'll just deal with it by doing the same thing over and over. For a so called genius, he really isn't very smart.

Inventory:
His outfit!
His Zanpakuto, Shinso(a sword he obtained while he was a Shinigami in canon. Thanks to Exsilium, it's been enhanced in power and gained new abilites, which I'll clarify on later.)

Abilities, Strengths, and Weaknesses:

OK HERE GOES.

First off, ignoring any of his stupid anime powers, Gin was hailed as a genius by Soul Society when he was a kid. While most Shinigami finish their training in six years, he finished it in one. He's an excellent fighter in terms of skill, in both hand to hand combat and sword fighting. He's also really intelligent, good at provoking people into making mistakes, misleading them, luring them into traps, that kind of thing. Basically, strip him of any supernatural powers he has, and he's still a dangerous dude.

As generic as it is though, the fact he considers everyone else a liability to his plans is his biggest weakness. Even if he cares about someone a lot, in fact especially if he does in some cases, he won't ask them for help and will keep any of his schemes a secret from them. He wouldn't even be above using them to further his plans, but only if it helps them in some way, otherwise he won't get them involved. Gin keeps people at arms length, so when things go bad, he can end up with a lot of trouble on his hands and will refuse to seek help. When dealing with things that are far beyond his capabilities, this can lead to terrible circumstances for him. It's what lead to his death in canon, after all.

Anyway, moving on from that, his actual stupid anime powers come from being a shinigami. They're basically reapers that purify evil spirits and send the regular ones to the afterlife, but they're essentially the ghost police. A shinigami's existence and overall strength is tied to how much spiritual pressure they have, and Gin is considered one of the more powerful Shinigami in canon, being far stronger, more durable, much faster and overall better than humans and other shinigami alike. It's hard to quantify really, but with his bankai activated(at full strength, basically) the force of his attacks being blocked by the protagonist wrecked an entire city street, while in one casual swing of his blade, he managed to slice an entire city block in half. It's also important to note that he was holding back and trying not to kill Ichigo during this confrontation, so who knows what he's really capable of.

Speaking of bankai, being a shinigami, Gin has a Zanpakuto, which is a weapon all Shinigami receive to help them in their duties. It's essentially an extension of their being in the form of a weapon. Gin's Zanpakuto is Shinso, a small blade about 20 inches long in it's sealed state. In it's sealed state, it limits Gin's powers to an extent, and can take two new forms that release these limits and grant him new abilities.

In it's Shikai state, Shinso has the ability to extend up to one hundred times it's original length. Gin can maintain the weapon at any length and still swing it with little effort. This is it's only canonical ability. Due to the evolution granted to it by the Initiative in exsilium however, Shinso also has the ability to travel through solid surfaces. If he sticks it into a wall, for example, it can emerge from any solid surface touching the wall itself; so say the wall is sticking out of the ground, it can spawn the blade out of the ground, and then if the ground meets another wall, it can also emerge from the surface of that second wall. All that matters is what the blade emerges from must be connected in some way to the original surface he sticks the blade into. Because the full length of Shinso is 100 times it's original length, the area his blade can travel through is limited to that as well, so roughly 50 meters from the original surface. It's also important he can see where he's aiming, so while the ability is useful in a wide, open space, it's much less useful in an enclosed one, like a hallway.

In it's Bankai state, Shinso becomes Kamishini No Yari. It simply acts as an effective 'upgrade' to shinso, as rather than develop any new abilities(well, it does, but I'll elaborate on that) it simply boosts the length of the weapon's extension, the speed at which it extends and the force behind the extension to incredible heights.

Gin stated that his sword is capable of extending to 13km(8.1 miles) at 500 times the speed of sound: exactly 171,500 meters per second in order to arrive at its full length in under 0.08 seconds. However, he later claimed this was a lie; unfortunately, he died before we could get any kind of elaboration on this, so I'm just going by what he said originally, considering we'll never find out how fast or long it can actually become.

KnY is also in possession of a secret ability, one that Gin hid from everyone his entire life, as it's what he was going to use to kill Aizen. When Gin stabs someone with his weapon, he can instantaneously turn the blade into dust, and then reform it in the same amount of time, then retract his weapon; this happens so quickly it's impossible to tell it actually has. When he does this, he can leave a shard of the blade embedded into his opponent, and then by uttering the activation phrase "Kill, Kamishini no Yari", the shard breaks apart into a deadly poison that eats away at his opponent on a cellular level. The poison seems to also be incredibly fast acting, as it made a gigantic hole in Aizen's torso in almost no time at all.

The upgraded form of KnY, given to him by Exsilium's enhancement of his weapon, allows the weapon to travel through rips in space.

Basically, as the weapon extends, at any point during the extension it can tear open a small hole in space, this being the entrance, which it extends through. Then, the blade opens another tear, this being the exit, to emerge from. The tears it creates are capable of appearing anywhere, but if they're outside of Gin's line of sight, he's forced to make guesses as to where his opponent is(which he can do by sensing them, but anything without life force/spiritual energy to sense he'll be completely blind to) and considering the destructive power of his weapon, that would be reckless and dangerous as hell, even to himself if he's too close to it.

However, upon training with the weapon, he came to realize a few things. First, the blade was capable of repeatedly traveling through these tears, making as many of them as was necessary, so long as the full length of it's extension wasn't used up(13km). This means that the blade can relentlessly pursue his target much like a snake would hunt down it's prey.

Secondly, he wasn't limited to opening one tear for the blade to emerge from. If it entered point A for example, the blade would emerge from point B. However, if he created several openings for it to emerge from, all designated as point B, then the blade would essentially be duplicated and emerge from all five exits at once, allowing him to use the ability a bit more creatively.

The obvious one is simply materializing several blades at once and skewering an opponent from all sides. However, by summoning several blades from the ground at once, he could use it as an effective anti-crowd weapon. It also allowed him to destroy things on a large scale, but far more precisely - summoning several blades in the aforementioned method could allow him to destroy, say, a building or a large vehicle with ease, without endangering anyone else(since swinging a massive fucking blade has a tendency to wipe out a city block indiscriminately). Also, if several blades were summoned in front or around him, tightly packed together, he could essentially use them as a shield. This isn't the limit to his uses for it, but only the ones he's discovered so far, so it mostly just depends on how creative he can get with it.

The main drawback to this ability is while the weapon is traveling, the beginning of the blade attached to the hilt of his sword is going to be stuck in the first hole it entered, meaning Gin is forced to remain completely still while using it. Secondly, in order to use his weapon for something else(say if it was targeting someone from far away and then a second person ambushed him, attacking up close) he'd be forced to retract his weapon immediately to focus on the closer threat, or defend himself with one bare hand. Although his blade is capable of retracting almost immediately, it still leaves an opening and him vulnerable.

Finally, because his Zanpakuto is a manifestation of Gin's soul, the growth of his weapon in Exsilium effected him as well. His amount of spiritual pressure is actually much, much higher than it was in canon, and after a year of steadily growing in power, he's about roughly equal to pre-hogyoku Aizen. However, he's hidden this the whole time, so noone is really going to be aware of it unless they force him to go beyond his canon levels of power.
